Armando PĂ©rez-Torres

Department of Cell and Tissue Biology, UNAM
Mexico

Medical doctor (1983. Honorable mention in the undergraduate internship), Master of Biomedical Sciences (1989. Honorable mention and medal Gabino Barreda) and
PhD in Biomedical Sciences (2003), Diploma in Medical Sciences and Complexity Sciences (2020). All these studies by the UNAM. 37 years of teaching work and 34
years as a researcher at the Faculty of Medicine of the UNAM on the immune system of the skin, generating 6 original articles and 5 theses on the presence of Langerhans
cells in the skin of non-mammalian vertebrates. Currently, we are studying the histochemistry and ultrastructure of the secretory elements of the skin of the axolotl Ambystoma mexicanum, and the presence of proteases of its cutaneous secretion. Another relevant line of research is that of preclinical models of cancer (melanoma, breast cancer, lung cancer)and the antitumor use of the GK-1 peptide and others
antitumoral molecules, which has resulted in 4 national and international patents, 5 articles, and we received the PUIS/León Weiss 2017 awards in basic oncological
research and the third place in the CANIFARMA 2023 award. The methodological approach includes histological, histopathological, immunohistological, and ultrastructural analysis with or without immunolabeling. I have collaborated in projects in different areas of knowledge. I am a co-patentee in 4 patents (Mexico, USA and Europe) of a nasal vaccine against fatty liver and atherosclerosis. I was
president of the Mexican Society of Anatomy (1996-1997), I am a member of the Mexican Association of Microscopy. In the Department of Cell and Tissue Biology (Faculty of Medicine) I served as research coordinator from 2010 to 2016 and head of the Phylogeny of the Immune System of skin and mucous membranes. I have more than 40 original and popular articles in Mexican journals, 115 in international
journals with impact factor and indexed, 2 chapters in textbooks (immunology and histology) and 8 chapters in specialized books. I have supervised 6 bachelor's theses,
6 master's theses and 6 doctoral theses, 2 specialty theses and 7 social services in research. I am a lecturer on Santiago Ramón y Cajal and I am co-founder and organizer of La Caravana de la Ciencia (2020-24), a site for online science
communication (Facebook live, You Tube and Ciencia UNAM), whose essential objective is to connect Science and its creators with society. I have been a member of
the National System of Researchers since 1990; from 2020 to date with level II.
