Dr. Yang has 20+ years’ experience in molecular biology, virology, and medicine within the federal government and academia. She is currently a Research Biologist with OARSA, CFSAN, FDA. Her expertise mainly focuses on the application of genomic-scale molecular biology techniques (next-generation and third-generation sequencing) for the detection and further identification/genotyping of epidemiologically important foodborne viruses including but not limited to norovirus, hepatitis A virus, enterovirus, etc. as well as newly emergent viral species. My research interest also includes the development of novel sequencing methodologies for virus detection and analysis, and application of these methodologies to issues of virus carriage in foods, clinical specimens,s, and environmental specimens, and the exploration of virome through genomic and metagenomics approach.
